INTRODUCTION:
2006 - 2020
The “Mapping Health and Popular Education Practices Project” (MAPEPS) has been developed since 2006 and its main goal until 2020 was to promote processes of Health and Popular Education through dialogue and exchange of technical – scientific and popular practices and knowledge within the framework of brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) and University, combining people working at administration, health professionals, social movements, the popular practitioners of health and educational institutions as the Federal University of Sao Carlos (UFSCar).
2021-
It was renamed “Movement and Articulation of Practices and Popular Education in Helth"
Its mission is to build dialogues and shared
projects in health in the coexistence between the community and the university,
valuing ancestral knowledge and popular practices, seeking justice and humanization,
from the perspective of Popular Education (Paulo Freire’s theory and practice).
a) Courses offered
The health popular practitioners also offer lectures at UFSCar about their practices and they welcome students in their work places so people can have experiences at the field-work. The course load is 48 hours.
b) Health Care Sites
At these places, the health popular practitioners who work along with MAPEPS offer attention to health professionals at Primary Care (Unidades de Saúde -SUS ) and other work spaces of Sao Carlos and region, followed by discussion about their experiences.
c) Health and Popular Education workshops
An educational approach for professional development that takes from 4 to 8 hours and it is offered to health related undergraduate programs in the region of São Carlos with the participation of health popular practitioners.
d) Health and Popular Education Practices Conference:
An exchange of experiences and reflections through presentations of researches, lectures and a field-work related to Health and Popular Education Practices.
